About Miss C

I provide individualized, focused academic tutoring services for students in elementary level reading, writing, and math. My focus is to establish a positive, relationship-based approach that empowers students by improving their academic, social, and organizational skills so they become better learners.

Credentials

I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Dominican University and my Bachelor’s Degree from Briar Cliff University in Iowa. I have twenty years of professional training and instructional experience teaching at a variety of elementary schools within the San Rafael City Public Schools. The main focus is in the areas of reading and math intervention and also in the Resource Specialist classroom.

My life

My passion to become a teacher came from watching the positive impacts that teachers, including my own mother, had on children. I strongly believe in encouraging a child’s curiosity and desire to learn while also striving to do their best work. I am especially sensitive to struggles that a child can have and so my focus is on gaining a deeper understanding of learning strategies that would help the student address those issues. I thoroughly enjoy spending my day tutoring and working with children.

I also spend my free time with my two teenage boys and Banjo, the family dog. I love history, mystery books, and painting with watercolor paints along with other art projects. I appreciate all kinds of music from classical to country. I make the most of each day, finding appreciation for the good that comes my way, and using challenges as opportunities to grow. I firmly believe that focusing on the positive aspects of each student and am committed to creating an environment of respect, compassion, and celebrating hard work and any accomplishment.

Here is a list of schools that my students attend:

I am so thankful we found Miss C for both my 7 year old son, who was struggling with reading, and my 10 year old daughter who needed help with writing and reading comprehension. While my daughter was already doing ok in writing, I felt she needed the one on one, in person connection. I noticed a big difference in both of my kids after meeting with Miss C just a few times. I like how she employs a multisensory approach to her work. And my kids like her prize bin! It is nice to have the extra help during the school year, but I am looking forward to continuing with Miss C over the summer to help prevent the “summer slide”.
